Curating - the latest news from Sally - There is a season...

I've just returned to Malton this evening after a couple of lovely days visiting my step father in Lanchester, County Durham.
Despite the rather bleak weather we've had over the weekend (the north east does seem to have had its fair share of cloud cover this summer) the scenery is superb and yesterday we drove across to Blanchland via Derwent Reservoir. The heather is looking wonderful.

Earlier today we went to an area called Shotley Bridge and found a Vintage Yard to mooch around in with some very well priced steel planters and wrought iron garden ware - definitely a place to return to.
The owner was delightful and turned out to be the ex head teacher of a well known Special School in County Durham; so there we were, three head teachers, two of them heads in County Durham and all interested in vintage wrought iron - with a collective age of around 230years!

And talking of teachers ... it's that time of year again when many of us turn our minds to new schools, new terms, new classrooms.
Despite being out of the profession for twelve years, every September I cant help but think about what this time of year meant for me.
For anyone remotely linked to education and especially to the wonderful staff who keep our schools going - lots of luck for a new year ahead. With Bridget Phillipson at the helm we can only hope that things in the education sector really do get better and she's made a great start today with the scrapping of the single word Ofsted judgements.

Paul is in Denver, Colorado visiting his eldest daughter and so Monkey and I are 'home alone' catching up with lots of outstanding Bias paperwork and other 'life admin' as I believe they call it now.
I've also decided to really pull out the stops to get the upstairs room, which will be filled with wonderful scents and bath and body products, open in time for our Autumn Launch. The second Malton Food Festival of the year (formerly held over August Bank Holiday) is now taking place during the first weekend in October so it seems as good a time as any to get everything up and running for that busy weekend.

On Friday we received two different new collections of jewellery; one a new collection from Edblad the beautiful Swedish designs in stainless steel and 14 carat gold on stainless steel. I'm currently loading it all on Shopify and will let you know when it's all available.
And, after a period of time without this brand, Bias welcomes back the lovely designs of Copenhagen based Dansk.

Please don't forget the
Bias 2024 Autumn Launch event
on Wednesday 11 September from 3pm to 7pm.
Everyone is welcome to pop in at any time during the afternoon and early evening to see the latest styles on our rails
and join us for a glass of something.

So, just as I've called this missive  'there is a season' I'd like to say
"Good Luck" to those clothing retailers who are launching their new Autumn 2024 Collections, and particular Good Luck to those educators who have the hugely important role of inspiring our young learners across the county and the country.

Here's to a good season, take lots of care, love Sally x
