So I'm back from a wonderful week in Scotland; we stayed in The Lovat Hotel in Fort Augustus for a couple of nights, a glorious place where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness and then had four nights in a cottage right by the waters of Loch Fyne. We walked, we read, we ate and we slept - all the things I was hoping to do on our Winter Retreat.
Talking of Winter Retreats - look out for the newsletter coming soon highlighting the things we have in store to help you have a cosy and calm start to the new month and the new year. From organic pyjamas, to cosy dressing gowns and hand felted slippers - all at 25% off.
At the start of the year I mentioned that the next three weeks in store would focus on 'buy nothing new' so from the 15th to the 31st January all our efforts will be on this, our final Pre Loved Project.
By the way, I'm currently listening with great joy and delight to The Archers and their preparations to put on a Pre Loved Fashion Show at The Bull supported by eco warrier Mia. Perhaps they could take some advice from us!
So from Monday 15 January we are encouraging you all to clear out your wardrobes and bring your Pre Loved purchases - Bias and other Brands - to the store for us to sell on your behalf.
Due to the short time that we have left at Montpellier Parade, there are a few terms that we need to put in place to make sure the project works. I hope you feel theyre reasonable:
Customers can donate their clothes between 10am and 4pm from Monday 15 to Friday 19 January
Prices to sell each item for will be agreed by the customer and member of staff in the store at drop-off
Customers will receive 50% of the price of their Pre Loved pieces as credit to spend in Bias
The credit can only be spent on full priced items - in Harrogate or Malton
The credit will be in the form of a code which can be used for online sales as well as in store
This final Pre Loved collection will be on sale from Wednesday 17 January to Wednesday 31 January
Customers will be asked to collect any unsold pieces from the 1st to the 16th February
Any Pre Loved pieces not collected will be taken to a charity store by the Bias Team
Please take some time to have a clear out and support our campaign to buy nothing new during the rest of January 2024.
Another article I read in The Guardian this week was celebrating the huge success of Vinted and the story of how two friends who set up a website to 'clear out their closets' has turned into a multi billion company with an astonishing 16 million UK users alone. So there are plenty of people out there (nearly one quarter of the population in the UK) who are definitely making secondhand their first choice!
I want to close by saying how touched I was by the number of heartfelt, warming and supportive responses I received from my last Curating email. Your personal replies and your comments on Instagram were so very lovely and I thank you for all the beautiful words you shared.
