So here we are on Wednesday 3 January and I want to start by wishing all our Bias customers a very happy new year. Let's hope for peace and love and goodness during 2024 - how the world could do with more.
Some of my closest friends and colleagues will know that I start this new year aware that there are only a few weeks to go before Bias Harrogate closes its doors in mid February. I can't quite believe that after eight interesting and wonderful years I am leaving Harrogate.
Back in late October a number of opportunities aligned that almost made the decision for me; I was shown a lovely small store in Malton at a quarter of the price I currently pay for rent and rates and then a week later, and completely coincidentally, I was offered an early surrender on my Harrogate lease. It really was serendipitous and in my desire to simplify life for me and others around me it was just too good to let go.
And so on Friday 16 February 2024 I'll close the doors on our lovely store on Montpellier Parade and will move to live pretty much full time in Malton. There will be much time for thanking everyone for their love and support of my vision to create a scandi inspired store in Harrogate;
for now I just want to say I hope it's not a goodbye - more of a hope to see you in my new location.
In my new Malton store I'm going to go back to my roots once again and have a very pared back look with a focus on scandi and european clothing for women - Blanche, SZ Blockprints, Mama b, Odd Molly, Sofie Schnoor and Summum Woman continuing to be my chosen brands.
And a small, delightful range of danish and world jewellery.
And, of course, I'll continue to strive for a stylish collection with a great emphasis on sustainability and fair trade practices.
Bias Harrogate continues in sale for the next two weeks and then for the final four weeks of our time we're likely to pursue our love of
Pre Loved and Upcycled clothing supporting the various "Buy Nothing New" campaigns for the latter part of January and early February.
To those of you who have either been great donors of your pre loved Bias clothing, or for those of you who yearn to have a clear out of your wardrobes over the next few weeks, then please look out for an email coming your way with more details.
On another note, it was such sad news to hear that Camila Batmanghelidjh, aged only 61years, died yesterday; I got to know her fairly well during my years working as a head teacher in south east london and I applauded, and hopefully helped, in her drive and passion to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people.
She was strident in her singular goal to see children and young people become safe and able to realise their potential.
She was a fantastic role model
I am very likely to take my 'Curating' with me to my pastures new and hope that you'll continue to read what I've been up to and the latest plans for Bias. There's always the "unsubscribe" button if you'd prefer not!
After a lovely three days getting the Bias Winter Sale off the ground, and then new year celebrations with my family and step father here in Durham, I'm off to the Scottish Highlands tomorrow with Paul and Monkey to have a week away walking, reading and resting and, if the weather forecast is correct, to enjoy crisp, cold bright days
with maybe the occasional fall of snow!
Thank you once again for reading my very latest Bias news and I'll chat with you all very soon, Sally x
