So this is the first time I've been in contact since my return from holiday. And what a fabulous time we had; I've absolutely fallen in love with the beaches of North Devon and am once again inspired to live by the sea.
The holiday started with a two night stay in the fabulous garden cottage of my friend Rachel. They live fairly near Lyme Regis, in a delightful small village where everyone knows each other. The weather was glorious for the two days we were there. We ate good food including a lovely lunch at .....overlooking Chesil Beach with great conversation.
On Wednesday we travelled round the coast to Exeter and through Torquay onto Ashburton to lunch at the wonderful Emilia's. It had been recommended to me a couple of times but little did I realise it was the very same set up that had created a Pop Up restaurant ion Bellenden Road in Peckham back in 2016, the year I moved to live and work in Harrogate. Some of you may know their cook book called DuckSoup. Tom and Claire have a lovely great set up in Ashburton and we enjoyed delicious food once again.
And then onto North Devon and the wonders of Westward Ho, Saunton Sands, Croyde, Wollacombe and Ilfracombe. As I say, I loved being by the sea and although the days were pretty cloudy, there was virtually no rain and so it was a joy to be out and about. I have to admit it wasn't quite warm enough for me to go into the sea (a choice I now regret!) and so another summer goes by without me braving the waters of the British isle. Unless of course I have the urge to jump into the north sea when I'm next at the caravan!
On our way back to North Yorkshire we stopped off at Burford and enjoyed this delightful Cotswold village, although at times I did have to pinch myself and remind myself that life for most of us isn't like this.
I came across a great place where five or six artists had come together under one roof and formed a collective called No31 Burford.
The products on sale were all very stylish and smart and the kind of things I would love to stock in Bias; watch this space as I'm keeping my fingers crossed we might be able to work together.
