Curating - the latest news from Sally - Gathering in the Harvest

Well it was delightful to be back in the store again on Friday and particularly because it was such a busy day of sales.
The same happened on Saturday and so I want to say special thanks to all of you who came into the store over the weekend and the varied and interesting conversations I had with you all.

The GR Nature is looking good and at the weekend I managed to get five or six styles hung out and priced. It's a collection of light wool jackets, good needlecord pieces and a couple of lovely wool mix coats. One of the shades in the collection is a lovely mix of brown, grey and purple, think heather on the Yorkshire Moors when it's at its best. And because the fabric is cord it takes on different hues depending on the light. We have three pieces in this particular fabric and shade - a lovely tunic dress with deep pockets, an A line skirt looking very flattering
and a pair of barrel trousers with a neat front zip and button.

I was listening to Women's Hour on Friday and amidst the discussion about London Fashion Week there was talk of the latest trend in trousers. Much was made of the 'barrel' trouser apparently also called the 'horseshoe' and the (upside down) 'tulip'
For someone who is only 5ft 2in I find them a great shape to wear.
One of the questions I'm often asked in store is what footwear to team them with and I always go with a loafer or a brogue in reply. Together with a thick tight or a pair of slouchy socks I think they look great.

Having had a number of days away from the chalkface during the last fortnight, I'm really backed up with work and will need to work round the clock to be ready in time for next weekend.
The Malton Harvest Food Festival, (which is usually held on the August bank holiday) is taking place the first weekend of October to celebrate the gathering in of crops and produce. So if you're looking for a great day out, full of lots of fruits and flavours to taste, then come and enjoy this feast of a festival on Saturday 5 or Sunday 6 October.
The two day festival starts at around 9am on both days and we will keep our fingers and toes crossed for some of those bright autumnal skies.

It is my hope that the long awaited 'gift room' on the upper floor of the store will well and truly be revealed by the time the weekend comes around although I foresee late nights and early mornings to get there.
All of our lovely brands of toiletries and bath wares (plus a few new labels) - Ambustum, Bath House, Bon Parfumeur, Hierbas de Mallorca, Skandinavisk and Voluspa will all be on display in the new room.

This week also saw deliveries from Sofie Schnoor and Coster Copenhagen; a lovely striped knit from Sofie which would really well over a long sleeve tee - and a great pair of navy pinstripe trousers.
And Coster has delivered the wonderful striped pyjama / lounging sets with a long sleeve top and matching bottoms making a great gift!

Despite lots of work to be achieved, we took advantage of some late afternoon sunshine today to walk Monkey and take in some of the Ryedale Open Studios, visiting the nearby village of Nunnington.
What a beautiful village it is; we found Nunnington Studios, a lovely open courtyard housing some great artists as well as The Old Yard Coffee Shop serving a delicious decaf cappuchino.
I was particularly pleased to find a great warehouse full of antiques including delightful enamel light shades and some wonderful wooden bowls. Look out for some of them in the windows of the store fairly soon.
The village is most famous for Nunnington Hall of course, and whilst we were too late to enjoy a visit we picked up a leaflet showing lots of interesting events planned for the next three months.
Added to my list of things to do is to visit the hall when it's dressed for that special day in December!
We were only out for a couple of hours and it was a real delight.

I can smell a delicious Sunday evening meal being cooked downstairs so will sign off here. Look out for a few additional emails this week highlighting all the new styles that have arrived in store.
Oh and we have some technical support for the website this week so fingers crossed you'll soon be able to navigate the site with ease and find all the lovely styles I keep writing about.

I'll chat with you again soon, take care, Sally x
