Happening | Bias helps incredible Plumpy Nut Project

We hope this email finds you in good health and high spirits. At Bias, we are committed to making a positive impact in the world, and today, we want to share an inspiring story of how Bias was able to support a charity that is making a significant difference to the lives of young children.

Masanga UK, a dedicated charity, together with Masanga Hospital are doing incredible work in Sierra Leone, where they run a vital project known as Plumpy Nut. This project focuses on providing homemade nutritional supplements to children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition, one of the most common conditions seen in the Masanga paediatric ward.

So, I've been going to a fabulous Dance Fitness Class here in Harrogate for well over two years. It's run by the wonderful Sadie Davy who has two daughters one of whom is called Becky and is a qualified doctor who was working out in Sierra Leone last year at the Masanga Hospital.

Sadie had the great idea to run a series of Coffee Mornings with Cake Sales and Raffles at her numerous fitness classes across Harrogate and Hampsthwaite to raise money for the hospital.

As a passionate ex teacher I'm always very keen to support projects such as the Plumpy Nut, both here in the UK and in the wider world and so Bias donated a whole number of items for the raffle prizes.

That meant that Sadie could do lots of coffee sessions, lots of raffles and eventually raise £2,400 for the Masanga Hospital. Amazing!

With a staggering one in three under-5-year-olds being stunted in Sierra Leone and nearly 200,000 children suffering from malnutrition annually, the importance of the Plumpy Nut project cannot be overstated. It provides a lifeline for these children and their families.

The Plumpy Nut project is not just about fundraising but also about self-sustainability. By producing high-calorie, protein-rich supplements from readily available local produce, the project aims to ensure that malnourished children on the ward don't miss out on their vital meals. This self-reliance is a game-changer, ensuring that vital supplies are always available and uninterrupted.

"From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you to everyone who contributed to the amazing fundraising effort for Masanga Hospital! It is an incredible amount of money in any setting, but here in Masanga this money will go a long way. We have chosen to put the money directly into the charity fund. Meaning that when a patient cannot afford treatments, the charity fund can cover the costs of life saving treatment. I hope you are all proud of the good you have done, and I am certainly incredibly grateful that you have chosen to support Masanga Hospital. Thank you!!
